Transamerica (2005)
Bree is a born-again Christian and pre-operative transsexual woman living in L.A. and trying to save up his money to become a woman. One day, he learns that he had fathered a son, Toby, who is now jailed in New York, so Bree flies across the country to get him out of jail. Toby, not realizing that Bree is his father (or a man) instead thinking she's a Christian missionary, is released to Bree's custody, and he agrees to travel with her across country back to L.A., just looking for his chance to escape from her.

A sweet little road film about a father getting to know his son...except that the father is a transsexual and the son doesn't know who his father is. This film falls in places, but is pulled together by a brilliant (and Oscar nominated) performance by Felicity Huffman, as well as great (and largely unrecognized) work by...

"Transamerica" – Rated R, 103 minutes – A-
Let me get this out of the way – Not to slight Reese Witherspoon, Felicity Huffman was robbed. And now – the review.
"Transamerica" is about a journey taken by a father and his seventeen-year-old son whom he just learned existed. On the journey both parties learn about...
