Good Night, And Good Luck. (2005)
"Good Night. And, Good Luck." takes place during the early days of broadcast journalism in 1950's America. It chronicles the real-life conflict between television newsman Edward R. Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee. With a desire to report the facts and enlighten the public, Murrow, and his dedicated staff - headed by his producer Fred Friendly and Joe Wershba in the CBS newsroom - defy corporate and sponsorship pressures to examine the lies and scaremongering tactics perpetrated by McCarthy during his communist 'witch-hunts'. A very public feud develops when the Senator responds by accusing the anchor of being a communist. In this climate of fear and reprisal, the CBS crew carries on and their tenacity will prove historic and monumental. (read more)

Murrow's battle against Junior Senator Joseph McCarthy. The black-and-white...

I wasn't completly sure of the plot of this film, especially since I have never heard of Edward R. Murrow or Fred Friendly, and surprisingly Joseph McCarthy. I have learned that Communism was a frightening issue during the 1950s and we, as Americans feared that this belief system threatened our American Empire.
Though...

As Jon Stewart said to George Clooney on The Daily Show:
"Sir, I feel you should be less handsome."
It is true, Clooney shows some yet-unseen talents in this film that have nothing to do with his good looks or leading man talents ("I said you could fire a 'few' rounds."). The look of the film, the shots used, the style,...

**** There is a reason why Edward R. Murrow is so revered by journalists the world over.
In "Good Night, and Good Luck", George Clooney explores perhaps the most politically volatile period in the newsman's career. In the early 50s, Murrow (David Strathairn, in a great performance) went after Senator Joe McCarthy,...
