  The Island (2005)

Lincoln Six-Echo is a resident of a seemingly utopian but contained facility in the mid-21st century. Like all of the inhabitants of this carefully controlled environment, Lincoln hopes to be chosen to go to the "The Island"—reportedly the last uncontaminated spot on the planet. But Lincoln soon discovers that everything about his existence is a lie. He and all of the other inhabitants of the facility are actually human clones whose only purpose is to provide "spare parts" for their original human counterparts. Realizing it is only a matter of time before he is "harvested," Lincoln makes a daring escape with a beautiful fellow resident named Jordan Two-Delta. Relentlessly pursued by the forces of the sinister institute that once housed them, Lincoln and Jordan engage in a race for their lives to literally meet their makers. (read more)

The Island Movie Review by Zara (1/25/2007)

I'm not going to waste a ton of time going into this movie. It's one of those big budget flicks where it is supposed to make up in style what it completely lacks in substance.

Hint: The movie studio didn't even have enough faith in it to promote it well. They blamed the actors, the actors blamed the studio... you get the...

The Island Movie Review by Max (4/15/2006)

The idea of human cloning is a hot and controversial topic at the moment, and this film capitalizes on that in a big way. The first half of the film while very technical and detailed still manages to hold viewers' interest and set up the story in an engrossing manner. Unfortunately, the film does not make good on its early...

The Island Movie Review by AJ (4/13/2006)

First, he gave us an in-depth account of how one annoying buddy cop can take star cred from the other, less annoying buddy cop in Bad Boys. Then he turned Alcatraz into a deeply philosophical video game arcade for Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery in The Rock. He then revitalized the popularity of that old standby "Leaving On...

The Island Movie Review by Matthew (7/25/2005)

One of the best things about watching a good science fiction film is the opportunity to see interesting interpretations of what the future might look like. If "The Island", the new film by Michael Bay, is to be believed, the year 2019 is dominated by Aquafina Water, Michelob Light, Cadillac, Adidas and Microsoft. Everyone...

The Island Movie Review by Kathleen (7/21/2005)

Earth is contaminated. Nearly everything aboveground is dead, but a couple hundred lucky, special people are eligible to participate in a lottery. Winners relocate to the only pathogen-free space on earth, THE ISLAND, to repopulate the world. Right now they're living underground, in what appears to be a swanky military...
