The Constant Gardener (2005)
Based on the best-selling John le Carré novel and from the Academy Award-nominated director of "City of God." In a remote area of Northern Kenya, activist Tessa Quayle is found brutally murdered. Tessa's companion, a doctor, appears to have fled the scene, and the evidence points to a crime of passion. Members of the British High Commission in Nairobi assume that Tessa's widower, their mild-mannered and unambitious colleague Justin Quayle, will leave the matter to them. They could not be more wrong. Haunted by remorse and jarred by rumors of his late wife's infidelities, Quayle surprises everyone by embarking on a personal odyssey that will take him across three continents. Using his privileged access to diplomatic secrets, he will risk his own life, stopping at nothing to uncover and expose the truth - a conspiracy more far-reaching and deadly than Quayle could ever have imagined. There was no Best Film Oscar for The Constant Gardener, no Best Actor Oscar for Ralph Fiennes. The Academy likes a love story, not a political thriller. It is unfortunate, as The Constant Gardener is both in every sense of the word.
Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz were superb! However, Fiennes will have to settle for film...

As the hall empties, he approaches her and they begin a torrid affair. Justin's duties as a mid-level ambassador call him to Africa...

Here is an Oscar worthy performance by Rachel Weisz. She glides on screen like an angel but with an intense swiftness of a hurricane. Rachel's rendition of Tessa got me. She came in strong from the start with naughtiness but without malice. She just believes and acts, yes without malice. Ralph Fiennes' Justin Quayle,...

Like Munich, this film just left me feeling upset, but in a good way. Ralph Fiennes' tortured performance is nothing short of incredible to watch and the non-linear story keeps the viewer enthralled from start to finish, but what really stuck with me is the fact that the tragic events of this film are still going on every...

After I have seen this film, it made me wonder why there aren't many intelligent films like this. This is one of few times where I smile and think at the same time. A film's meaning is to either entertain, educate or inform (same as the BBC's mission statement). This film has all three with excellent outcomes. It is very...
