Collateral (2004)
Max (Jamie Foxx) has lived the mundane life of a cab driver for 12 years. The faces have come and gone from his rearview mirror, people and places he's long since forgotten...until tonight. Vincent (Tom Cruise) is a contract killer. Tonight, Vincent arrives in L.A....and five bodies are supposed to fall. Circumstances cause Vincent to hijack Max's taxicab, and Max becomes collateral—an expendable person in the wrong place at the wrong time. Through the night Vincent forces Max to drive him to each assigned destination. And as the LAPD and FBI race to intercept them, Max and Vincent's survival becomes dependent on each other in ways neither would have imagined. (read more)

Collateral Movie Review by SHAYNE (12/17/2006) |

This action / drama written by Michael Mann has all the characteristics of a classic in the making. It's got a great cast line up with Tom Cruise (Vincent), Jamie Foxx (Max) and Jada Pinkett-Smith. Tom Cruise plays a cool, relentless, hitman that is just the perfect killing machine. His job is to take out five people in...

His two exceptions are THE INSIDER, which is a great movie, and ALI, which is crappy from beginning to end. But COLLATERAL, like HEAT, was a movie I enjoyed up until it came time to wrap it up. Instead of...

It occurred to me very early on in watching this film that it was meant to be watched on a great big screen and savored for its amazing shots. The whole movie is punctured by the empty feeling you get walking through a big city late at night - it feels like an eerie run-down cathedral. On top of that, the story is fine -...
