The Girl Next Door (2004)

An ambitious high school senior, Matthew, with dreams of a career in politics is overjoyed to discover that his new neighbor, 19-year-old Danielle, is absolutely beautiful, and they fall in love quickly, head over heels. There are quite a few things that bother me about this movie. First, Cuthbert is too cute and too precious to have been a hardcore porn star. This is such a hard movie to guage. On the one hand, it's a lightweight, completely harmless piece of teen sex comedy fluff, and even manages to find a sweet sort of chemistry between leads Emile Hirsch and Elisha Cuthbert. You know the story: Boyscout meets too-good-to-be-true girl, figures out that tgtbt girl is in fact porn star girl, figures it gives him the green light to treat her like dog crap, boy loses girl, goes to adult film expo in Vegas to get girl back - you see this kind of thing every day; it really breaks your heart.
