There is nothing I can say about 'City of God' that hasnt been said about it before, it's just such a marvelous, yet brutal film, showing us the harsh realites of growing up in Brazil. This and Kill Bill were the two most ass-kickingly ultra violent films of 2003, but in this one, the violence is not fun or stylized. The true story of gang warfare in 1970s Brazil, this is an extraordinary film reminiscent of early Scorsese.
