The streets of the world's most notorious slum, Rio de Janeiro's "City of God," are a place where combat photographers fear to tread, police rarely go, and residents are lucky if they live to the age of 20. City of God Movie Review by Movie Addict (11/5/2013)

I don't know why I have not seen this film until now. But, it is very timely as the World Cup and Olympics are coming to Barazil very soon, and I well imagine that many people wonder if things have really changed in the last 50 years.

Fernando Meirelles gives us a fast-paced, highly visual view of the drug gangs in Rio....

City of God Movie Review by Filmkiller (6/27/2010)

City of God is a very good movie. I do, however, believe that it's a little overrated due to critical inertia stemming from that fact that it rather accurately (to my meager knowledge) portrays historical events of an important and disregarded time and place (a little liberal guilt never hurt anyone, just ask Jim Cameron),...

City of God Movie Review by Chris (3/17/2009)

There is nothing I can say about 'City of God' that hasnt been said about it before, it's just such a marvelous, yet brutal film, showing us the harsh realites of growing up in Brazil. Not just Brazil though, smaller area's of Brazil, more like the slums, where kids run around with weapons, murder is not unusual and people...

City of God Movie Review by Jarrod (10/27/2007)

'City of God' is a depressing, visceral experience, one of the best crime drams ever made, an unflattering look at slum life in Brazil, on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. This is not organized crime as we know it from The Godfather; there is little professionalism here, it is more like Scarface, explosive and brutal,...

City of God Movie Review by Ezra (2/16/2007)

This and Kill Bill were the two most ass-kickingly ultra violent films of 2003, but in this one, the violence is not fun or stylized. The true story of gang warfare in 1970s Brazil, this is an extraordinary film reminiscent of early Scorsese.
