A Knight's Tale (2001)

There's no rule against rock anthems from the 1970s in the soundtrack for a movie about a medieval jousting champion, but if you're going to attempt such jarring anachronisms, you'd better establish acceptable ground rules. Writer-director Brian Helgeland does precisely that in A Knight's Tale and pulls off this trick with such giddy aplomb that you can't help but play along. Heath Ledger is pretty. He's been a pretty high schooler with dark hair, a pretty cowboy with a hat so you can't see his hair and a damn pretty jouster with golden ringlets that make you want to sing his praises. Dammit, the boy is pretty.
I really don't care that there isn't a huge story behind this movie. I avoid those...
