Hollow Man (2000)

In Paul Verhoeven's appropriately shallow Hollow Man, Kevin Bacon plays a bad-boy egotistical scientist who heads up a double-secret government team experimenting with turning life-forms invisible. How do we know he's a bad boy? Because he (a) wears a leather overcoat, (b) compares himself to God, (c) drives a sports car, and (d) spies on his comely next-door neighbor while eating Twinkies. Bad, horrible, stpid, insipid, lousy...
Whatever, take your pick. I got dragged to go see this movie in the theater by my ex, the lover of everything mainstream and sell-outish. At least I can't say that the movie defied my expectations.
There isn't a character to relate to or care about, so by the time that people start...

It's not really my favorite quote, but it is that which is most applicable to the film in which is resides; I suppose, that at some point in an early production meeting, a similar strategy was adopted for making Hollow Man. "If this movie tanks, let's pretend it was something deep and clever".
