Gladiator 2000

From Amazon: A big-budget summer epic with money to burn and a scale worthy of its golden Hollywood predecessors, Ridley Scott's Gladiator is a rousing, grisly, action-packed epic that takes moviemaking back to the Roman Empire via computer-generated visual effects. While not as fluid as the computer work done for, say, Titanic, it's an impressive achievement that will leave you marveling at the glory that was Rome, when you're not marveling at the glory that is Russell Crowe. Starring as the heroic general Maximus, Crowe firmly cements his star status both in terms of screen presence and acting chops, carrying the film on his decidedly...

Gladiator Movie Review by Shannon (8/30/2012)

3 1/2 stars; lots of style but not much substance . . .

As I left the theatre to this film, I overheard a lady telling her husband that it was a simple story of good guy versus bad guy. No complexity.

She pretty much hit the nail on the head. KAWHAP!

I found this film to be good for its special effects and costumes and...

Gladiator Movie Review by Filmkiller (10/16/2011)

I doubt that Russell Crowe was standing in bread lines for pu**y before Gladiator came out, but whatever his status, this flick surely whisked him to trendiest of first class dining; I would have had sex with him after seeing Gladiator for the first time.

His name is Maximus Decimus Meridius (Crowe), commander of the...

Gladiator Movie Review by Christopher Thomas (8/28/2007)

While many directors define their action films by how much noise they can bring to a scene, Ridley Scott shows how much power he can bring to silences.
We all know about Gladiator's great action scenes, but go back and take the time to experience how much is said in the silences.
Russell Crowe shows in his...

Gladiator Movie Review by Steven (8/28/2007)

Considering it has been a while since I ahve seen this film, I remember when I saw it, I thought, Ridley Scott had done better movies, and also Russell Crowe. I personally think Crowe should have won the Oscar for "The Insider", not "Gladiator"

I know some people comapre this film to Mel Gibson's "Braveheart". ...

Gladiator Movie Review by Jarrod (8/7/2007)

'Gladiator' reminded me of Ben-Hur, the William Wyler epic from 1959, with Charlton Heston. There is nothing religious or biblically-inspired in Ridley Scott's Roman-era action flick, but the journey taken by the main character in both films is remarkably similar. Crowe, like Heston, is a prominent member of Roman...
