I think PT Anderson is a great director, to the point that I'm willing to defend my opinion on that to people who think I'm lame for believing so.
However... this is a horrible film. Uneven, dark and not in a good way, ugly characters in loathsome unnecessary situations... it's bleak and pointless. I can tolerate bleak as...
