SLC Punk starts out entertainingly enough as a sarcastic snapshot of the punk-rock scene in Salt Lake City in 1985--complete with mohawks, moshing, and vague avowals of anarchy. Its no secret that James Merendino created this movie from some of his own memories of growing up as a punk in Salt Lake City Utah, Mormon town USA. One of the things I loved was that he chose to shoot the entire film in SLC, which is quite rare these days. My reasons for loving this movie are similar to Merendino's...
