All About My Mother (1999)

After her son is killed in an accident, Manuela (Cecilia Roth) leaves Madrid for her old haunts in Barcelona. She reconnects with an old friend, a pre-op transsexual prostitute named La Agrado (Antonia San Juan), who introduces her to Rosa (Penélope Cruz), a young nun who turns out to be pregnant. When this movie opened, I knew right away it was going to be a smash hit. The first 20 minutes of screentime were absolutely amazing and the rest of the film wasn't any less superb. Celia Roth gave an amazing performance... an Oscar-worthy performance as Manuela, a mother who has lost her son and is in search of his father...
