The story of a fat and shlumpy girl from a small town in Australia comes to life by the power of Collette's desire for it to. The actress gained weight for this role and dives into it unabashedly, proving instantly why she was meant for the silver screen.
Muriel is made fun of by the other girls she so desperately wants...

This movie was my introduction to film from Down Under and boy am I thankful it was.
We decided to go see it for one reason and one reason only..ABBA! As the story unfolds I have never laughed as hard as I did watching this. I thought Toni Collete was brilliant and I couldn't imagine Muriel being played by anyone else but...

i identify with muriel. a woman who feels like an outcast and loves seventies music. she's overweight and i bought this on DVD a few months. my favorite scene is when her best friend confronts her in the bridal shop and she breaks down and cries.
