Carlito's Way (1993)
From Amazon:
Al Pacino cuts a noble figure in this very enjoyable drama by director Brian De Palma (Scarface), based on a pair of books by Edwin Torres. Pacino plays a Puerto Rican ex-con trying hard to go straight, but his loyalty to his lowlife attorney (a virtually unrecognizable Sean Penn) and enemies on the street make that choice difficult. He wants to raise enough money so that he can invest in a rental car business in the Bahamas. However, his past keeps catching up...

Is there a bad Al Pacino performance? Maybe, but I don't recall seeing one. This was another great and gritty film with Pacino in the lead directed by Brian De Palma.
The film also had superb performances by Sean Penn as David Kleinfeld:
"f*ck you and your self-righteous code of the goddamn streets. Did it pull you out...
