  Carlito's Way (1993)

From Amazon: Al Pacino cuts a noble figure in this very enjoyable drama by director Brian De Palma (Scarface), based on a pair of books by Edwin Torres. Pacino plays a Puerto Rican ex-con trying hard to go straight, but his loyalty to his lowlife attorney (a virtually unrecognizable Sean Penn) and enemies on the street make that choice difficult. Penelope Ann Miller plays, somewhat unlikely, a stripper who has a romance with Pacino's character. The film finds De Palma tempering his more outlandish moves (think of Body Double or Snake Eyes) just as he did with the popular Untouchables and Mission: Impossible. But while...

Carlito's Way Movie Review by Ben (9/1/2007)

The film also had superb performances by Sean Penn as David Kleinfeld:

"f*ck you and your self-righteous code of the goddamn streets. Did it pull you out...

Carlito's Way Movie Review by Zara (4/4/2007)

Most people remember Pacino from movies where he's eating up the scenery, in things where he's yelling, screaming and holding a gun to someone's head. (SCARFACE, anyone?) But this movie hold much more of an impact based on the fact that it's understated.

The material covered is well worn and frankly, there really isn't...

Carlito's Way Movie Review by AJ (4/14/2006)

The first De Palma film I've seen that I've actually enjoyed, Carlito's Way is a snappy--if somewhat formulaic--crime flick that culls its mood and atmosphere from various sources: It sometimes seems like a hard-boiled noir with a hardened hero that still looks for love (Al Pacino's Carlito even likens himself to Humphrey...
