I Take This Woman (1940)
A doctor returning to the US after a research stint in Europe, saves Lamarr's life as she attempts to dive off the ocean liner on which both are sailing. The reason is that she is disappointed in love. Her amour had promised to divorce his wife and marry her. When that didn't happen, he went back to the US and she decided to drown herself. Soon they are working in a slum clinic. Tracy goes head over heels for Lamarr, proposes marriage, and she accepts. He immediately quits his altruistic calling in order to provide Lamarr with all of life's frills and becomes a physician for the upper crust. (read more)

With two Oscars already on his shelf (Boy's Town, Captains Courageous),
Tracy looks lost here. And well he should, as this was a vehicle for
promoting Hedy Lamarr. The interference by a major Hollywood producer
resulted in three directors and 18 months of shooting. Naturally, a
patchwork film like that wouldn't do well at...
