IT'S BUT A SCRATCH: THE ZOMBIE UPDATE

God Damn Bathsalts.

God Damn Bathsalts.
Isn't it nice that the gentleman from Miami wasn't eating a homeless man's face because of "bath salts" (a fake over the counter cocaine) but maybe Maryjane? It was said that there was marijuana in his system. I won't even get into that. The sporadic attacks across the country, the lady who swung a baby around her head and bit the child's arm, prompted the CDC to announce that there is "No Zombie Apocalypse". Max Brook's "The Zombie Survival Guide" is partly to blame for the panic, if you have read the book (which I highly recommend) there is a section that states if you the news starts broadcasting "odd" murder stories be wary. Also, the announcement by the CDC about a year ago on how to prepare for a zombie apocalypse...the CDC stated it was a ploy to get out awarness on preparedness for emergencies. It never ceases to amaze me how smart our officials are. I don't know... but when the day comes I have to bash skulls... I can, thanks to George Romero and Max Brooks, no thanks to the CDC.

The Motor City has received a proposal for a "Zombie Theme Park" called "Z-World". The park would be a 200 acre survival experience, people would be admitted overnight and find food and supplies. If you're caught by a zombie you become one and get to chase your friends. Mark Siwak is the entrepreneur behind the concept and hopes that the creative idea will bring

much needed tourism and jobs to Detroit. I think the idea is awesome and I think droves of people, will be racing to the site in the first year to enjoy the experience. I mean if you can reenact the Renaissance, give my generation this one thing. Siwak only needs 140,000 dollars to start the fundraising for the attraction. However, he is already getting opposition regarding the amount of land he wants, insurance, and getting approved by the local government for the project. Let's face it humans have been crueler to Detroit then any zombie and with the abandoned neighborhoods the setup could be historic. I know it would be successful if given the chance. But it is more likely the real Z-apocalypse happens before this smart idea. If you want give to the cause go to:

Now to the movies... 2012 and 2013

2012

RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION (September 14, 2012)
Although I was disappointed in the last film I am so in love with the brand (both game and film) I will play the "blissful ignorance" card on this one. Alice fights alongside a resistance movement in the continuing battle against the Umbrella Corporation and the undead.

RE-KILL (UK- December 31, 2012)

This film is receiving world wide distribution and hopefully it will play in the States, if not, I will order the movie
Eat them I'm too Handsome.

Eat them I'm too Handsome.
when I can. It may be a bit slower but count on the Brits for a good story. Five years since the outbreak that wiped out 85% of the world's population, the war between Re-Animates (Re-Ans) and Humans rages on. Within the few surviving cities, the Re-Ans are segregated into "zones" and are policed by the R-Division Unit who hunts to "re-kill" the Re-Ans in the hope of quelling a second outbreak.

2013

THE EVIL DEAD (APRIL 12, 2013)

Now, THE EVIL DEAD is not my cup of tea but, I respect what the movie has done for the horror genre. The 2013 release will hopefully not mock the classic. Mia, a young woman struggling with sobriety, heads to a remote cabin with her brother and a group of friends, where they discover of The Book of the Dead.

WORLD WAR Z (June 21, 2013)

The much anticipated movie adaption of Max Brook's bestselling novel will finally be here in the summer of 2013. I have heard the rumors that the big budget, Brad Pitt led film slides far and away from the structure and plot of the book. I guess we will have to wait and see. A U.N. employee races against time, traveling the world to stop the Zombie pandemic. * THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE IS SLATED FOR 2014.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: ORIGINS 3D (Slated for 2012 but no news so I'll bet 2013)

Downside: The animation for this film isn't
Voodoo is set to comeback.

that great and then its 3D. Upside: it's animated and we may see new possibilities in this adaption. Plus, Tony Todd is reprising his role as Ben and Bill Mosely as Johnny (voice). Survivors trapped in a New York apartment fight to stay alive against legions of zombies.

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES (2013)

As Hollywood digs its claws into any decent graphic novel or novel on the bookshelves for fresh ideas... PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES is in development for 2013 release. When I had to read Pride and Prejudice in school, I would rather have had a zombie eating my intestines.Adding zombies to this story isn't going to change that for me (nice try). But for the fans keep your eyes open. Jane Austen's classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England is faced with a new challenge -- an army of undead zombies.

I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE (2013)

For true zombie fans this should be a treat if done well. One of the original zombie films will be redone for 2013. A young schoolteacher moves to a picture-perfect modern plantation to tutor the children of the wealthy owner, she discovers the deadly secrets of the plantation's past. Seeped in Voodoo Magic, she struggles to help the children break free from their father, and the black spells he has cast to keep them bound to the land.

"I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE? Wow. That one slipped by me. I'll have to look for it now.

Oh, and for Comic-Con this year, Petco Park, across the street from the San Diego Convention Center will be converted into a Zombie Obstacle Course. I'm not too up on hte particulars, but it you could go as a zombie or a human, and do this course.

Keep up the work with Zombie News!

I auditioned this week for a tv pilot The Human Supply Corp. about zombies taking over and humans as second-class citizens. Sounds like Planet of the Apes, huh?

My name is GroovyMovie and I love horror more than anything. I write about everything horror and some things sci-fi. My favorite horror villain: the living dead. My goal is to introduce newcomers and die-hard fans to movies they may not know about and discuss the movies we all (should) really love. I also want to discuss themes, social correlations in the films, and why iconic horror films are iconic. I hope that everyone enjoys the column. Watch that zombie behind you!
