Based on True Events

Folks....Sometimes it is best to keep things short and sweet. Instead of dictating the feeling this week, I am going to let the readers play with the emotion.

Everyone knows the most heart wrenching movies are those that are based on true events. For many of us, we try to avoid those movies that are going to tear at our hearts and bring a tear to our eye, regardless of age or gender.

For some, it is just an itch we have to scratch.

So for those of us who have scratched an itch and watched multiple movies based on true events, here is a simple list of my
favorites:

1.OCTOBER SKY is the story of a coal miner's son, Homer Hickam, who dreams of being something more than a town coal miner. Homer, who takes a vested interest in science, finds the light at the end of the tunnel threatening to trap Home in. Homer's light is in a teacher; Miss Riley. After watching Sputnik launch, Homer sets out on a path of his dreams. Many people with far off dreams identify with Homer and in this heartfelt movie find hope.

2.THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS portrays a father desperate for a big break. After losing his wife, Chris Gander takes custody of his
son and ventures on a new business path. However, as Chris struggles to make ends meet, he finds himself pushing through harm's way to better his life for his son. This movie is the one that will crush a parents hear and have them praying for Chris' victories.

3.THE SOCIAL NETWORK depicts the life of Harvard Student Mark Zuckerburg and his journey through the war of Facebook. After creating Facebook, Zuckerburg becomes a marked man in more ways than one. THE SOCIAL NETWORK tells the tale of Zuckerburg's amazing achievements and challenges as he developed and founded Facebook.

4. THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT is just one of those movies that irks me beyond belief. The movie, based on the true events of a young boy who sees the dead and lives in the home that they haunt. The movie will scare you for the simple fact of your own thought process. Enough said. I am not sure I would be able to endure seeing the dead, much less have to live with them in my home haunting me.

Yes I know. Four is a very short list, but I myself have only seen a few true stories. Which ones are good, and which ones should everyone see? Which of there have you seen or not seen? Which are your favorites?

How ironic that I forgot my all time favorite movie...Titanic!

If you are looking for true events - There are dozens of bio films out there that are based on true events.

Titanic was based on true events, yes, but I challenge anyone to prove that that ill-fated, poor boy/rich girl romance was actually a true event.

I agree. I am not sure the romance portion of it was true. However, who really knows.
