...who are the next enemies? Greetings superheroes and welcome to another supremely, super-villainous story or serious size. Who else is looking forward to THE AVENGERS? I know I am too and I can't wait to see the story-line. The trailers suggests that one of the main villains is going to be Loki. This is great because he was the bad guy who unintentionally helped formed The Avengers in the comic book. It got me to thinking about a sequel. THE AVENGERS producer Kevin Feige hinted that it might happen after Iron Man 3 (which will be another column altogether - Continuous Craig) so that leads to the obvious question, who will they fight? In today's column I will run down a list of possible bad guys that could go toe to toe with Earth's Mightiest Heroes. So, without further ado, here is Craig's list.
I'm a mean green mother from outerspace and I'm bad!
This is a race of aliens with the ability to shape-shift into the form of any being it chooses. They take on the appearance but not properties of who they chose to copy, e.i. one can look like Spiderman but will not have
his powers. However they are also very genetically adaptable and many of them have taken on enhancements which gave them the same powers as the heroes they impersonated. One in particular was able to duplicate all of the Fantastic Four's powers. His name is Kl'rt the first of many Superskrulls. During the Invasion story line, several of them took on the roles of some of the most prominent heroes as sleeper agents becoming indistinguishable from their counterparts. I think this would be a great way to have an unpredictable enemy and pay homage to the source material.
Justice League? No, not quite.
The Squadron Sinister is a group of super-villains created to pay tribute to DC heroes. Doctor Spectrumwas a pastiche of Green Lantern, Hyperion was Superman, Nighthawk was Batman and Whizzer was The Flash. This way you had someone to combat each of the Avengers separately. The match-ups are pretty clear; Doctor Spectrum vs Iron Man, Hyperion vs Thor, Nighthawk vs Captain
America and Whizzer vs Hawkeye. I am not sure what Hulk would do, but a good story idea would be have all Avengers but him fall to the Squadron Sinister and have him come out of some kind of exile to save them and eventually beat them.
Feeling blue isn't always a sad thing.
They are a race of blue humanoid aliens that have strength and endurance levels higher than humans while requiring a higher nitrogen concentration in the air in order to breath. They have made attempts in the past to invade and take over Earth and failed. This gives an opportunity for Marvel to once again beat DC to the punch by introducing the character of Captain Marvel (the character was created and copy-righted by Stan Lee so that DC could not use the name when they acquired a character of the same name from Fawcett Comics - Acknowledging Alpha) . He was a Kree agent named Mar Vell who was sent to do recon in order to find out if Earth was worth capturing. He became sympathetic to the natives and chose to stay as a protector for Earth as Captain
Marvel. That would be a good story line and you could even have Kree judge Ronan the Accuser sent to bring Marvel back to be punished for treason. You could almost work it like FANTASIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER.
Struggling until the end. Illogical. You must realize the end is here.
He is a robot designed with one function, destroy the Avengers. He was created by Avenger Henery Pym/Ant Man but eventually rebelled against his created for being an imperfect being. Ultron has gone through an evolutionary process, up-grading to meet and match new technologies. He once even took over Iron Man's armor systems and took over a whole army of Sentinals. This bot put a serious hurting on the whole team throughout his existence. Give him the ability to absorb and re-create the abilities of The Avenger and you have a formidable adversary.
I seriously hope Marvel has the sense to know that the Avengers need a true threat. Let me know if you all have any ideas of who might pose a threat as well or what you think of my choices. Thanks for reading true believers, EXCELSIOR!

|Did the Avengers ever fight the Skrulls? I thought that was a Fantastic Four property. I cold be wrong, of course - it's been a while.|
Have you considered AIM? They've got a connection with Captain America (Red Skull) and Iron Man (Modok). Couldn't you see Peter Dinklage in the floating chair? He's already got the head (Simon Bar Sinister in UNDERDOG), and of course Nick Fury (S.H.I.E.L.D.). throw in a return engagement by Loki, and you've got a Battle Royale!
As always, I enjoy reading your column.

I am the first and the last, maybe not. I'm 31 years old and still spend my disposable income on comic books. Might as well put it to good use.|
