The green martian. |
| Greetings superheroes and welcome to another marvelous, magnificent, manic, miraculous mag of mirth. I am not talking about Mad Magazine. I am referring to everybody's favorite Martian, J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter. Who did you think I meant, Uncle Martin O'Hara or Marvin Martian? No, I am referring to the only last known survivor of Mars turned crime-fighter in the DC Universe. I have been going through a list of characters that I feel should have movies and I think he is due. He has been rated as being the most powerful hero, second only to Superman. His story is one that can be told independent of other heroes so it wouldn't hurt his origin story. So without further ado I give you Martian Manhunter.
Origin
Mars was a large planet full of life. The main inhabitants were peaceful green shape-shifting being with telepathic powers. They had only one weakness which was fire. Martian brothers Ma'alefa'ak and J'onn J'onzz were involved in a bitter feud

| that culminated the destruction of the Martian race. Ma'alefa'ak was born without telepathic abilities or the Martian weakness to fire so he engineered an extinction level fire attack which killed the majority of the Mars population. During that time it was assume he perished as well. After building up in own mental barrier to the flame J'onn J'onzz searched and found his dying wife. As he was holding her close, trying to protect her, he was vanished. He was plucked away in a communications device experiment conducted by Dr. Erdel. She shock of seeing J'onn J'onzz in his true Martian form killed Dr. Erdel. This left J'onn J'onzz stranded on Earth with nobody able to reverse the experiment. He adopted the identity of Detective John Jones after a fictional character from Middletown. He continued to fight crime, waiting to find the technology to return to Mars to see what had become of his home. With his Martian heritage he was dubbed The Martian

Powers
This guy didn't come unprepared. He is touted as being the most powerful being on the face of the Earth by Superman himself. He has a vast array of powers which include: Super-strength, Shape-shifting, telekinesis, Super-speed, Endurance, Longevity, Invisibility, Intangibility, Senses, Intelligence, Healing Factor, Flight, Telepathy, Martian Vision and Heat Generation in the form of concussive blasts. His telepathic powers have made him a sort of mental switchboard with the Justice League members so they may stay in contact regardless of positioning on Earth. Several times he was used as a stand-in for Superman due to his immense power much the same way Green Arrow was a stand-in for Batman. He can pretty do everything Supes can do and more. Just don't go flicking you BIC around him and he is unstoppable.
Enemies
His enemies range from his own brother to White Martians, Yellow Martians,
From humble beginnings. |
| Saturnian (Saturn natives), surviving Green Martians, Darkseid, Despero, Getaway King, The Prophet, The Human Flame, Kanto, The Master Gardener, VULTURE, Mongul, Professor Arnold Hugo, Thythen and Tor. Any one of them could be formidable for Manhunter to fight up on the big screen. The three that offer the greatest threat would be Darkseid as the tyrant ruler of the planet Apocalypse, Mongul the master of War World and The Human Flame who wields the most damaging weapon to Martians fire. If nothing else they make an amalgamation of foes to create a villain that would pose a true threat.
I could get into my opinions on casting this movie but I think that would need to wait for some indication that The Martian Manhunter is even on the Hollywood radar. Let me know what you think of this idea. Tell if you think he or is not ready for the big screen. Thanks again for reading true believers, EXCELSIOR!

I am the first and the last, maybe not. I'm 31 years old and still spend my disposable income on comic books. Might as well put it to good use.
