Okay so the word going around is that this is going to happen sooner than later with Pete Travis directing and Michael S. Murphey as co-producer. Karl Urban is set to play Judge Dredd and Olivia Thirlby will play Judge Anderson. The movie will simply be called Dredd. That takes care of one movie I have been waiting for, but what is good is a Christmas list if you only have one thing on it? So, in keeping with the holidays (which for my poor Catholic-raised ass is Christmas, pardon my lack of Kwanza and Chanukah refferences - Craigsmas) I have a short list of movies I want to be made. Submitted for your approvel, my list in no particular order.
Hang ten brah!
So there was supposed to be a spin-off from FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER. J. Michael Straczynski was even going to write it as a sequel that would focus heavily on the Surfer's origin and is duty as herald to Galactus (who would actually be seen in all of his glory - Absolute Alpha.) Now that the Fantastic Four franchise is being rebooted, it is highly unlikely there will be a sequel
movie. This is the perfect chance to make a completely independent Silver Surfer movie because people will still remember him, but not expect him to be attached to the Fantastic Four. You could have the origin of Norrin Radd/Silver Surfer becoming herald to Galactus so his home planet Zenn-La will be spared of its destruction/consumption. Then to give it a happy ending by having Surfer defeat an enemy to both him and Galactus, I don't know maybe the first herald The Fallen One, and in return he is set free to return to Zenn-La and his family. Nuff said.
There was talk way back in early 2000s of an imminent Captain Marvel movie with Peter Segal set to direct and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson set to play villain Teth-Adam/Black Adam (which of course would have been awesome - Calling-it-as-I-see-it Craig.) The unfortunate news is that there is a possibility of the movie being cancelled and adapted into a TV series. That's fine, let them make a show about him, but don't cancel a potential movie. There is nothing that says you can't have both, uh hello
Superman Returns and Smallville much? That would actually work better for good old Shazam. You could have a beginning series like Smallville that sets the stage and a movie that takes place many years later and makes minor references and hints to the TV series. This could really work, SHAZAM!
Ho ho ho, Green Arrow!
Green Arrow/Oliver Queen and Black Canary/Dinah Lance
No I am not talking about GREEN ARROW: ESCAPE FROM SUPER MAX, that's just dumb. The concept was basically "let's make a movie about a Batman-type character that gets sent to prison and must fend for himself during a riot put on by the very people he locked up there." That's great in a very Arkham Asylum way, but it takes importance away from the character Green Arrow by relegating him to being a stand-in for Batman. I say ditch this idea, or at least re-tool it with a completely different/new unique hero, and give Ollie and Dinah have their own MR. AND MRS. SMITH type story. I think it would be great. I would love to have Justin Hartley and Alaina Huffman reprise their roels of Green Arrow and Black Canary from
Smallville, but they would more than likely go with someone else. I would say Paul Walker and Elizabeth Banks.
It kind of looked like a big turtle, in a trenchcoat.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The CGI release TMNT was actually pretty good, I enjoyed it. But a fully computer generated, almost direct-to-DVD release is no substitute for a feature-length film with humans interacting with 5 foot tall mutated turtles. I don't even think the turtles need to be CGI, The Thing and Mr. Hyde both looked awesome. There are many different ways to bring them to the big screen and I was told years ago it would be done. Then I thought my wishes were answered with TMNT, but they were only really just teased. I really like how they had the first live-action movie told the story of the Turtles leaving and then returning to New York. This can be done again and better, I just hope that someone like Guillermo del Toro to lends his creative genius to it. I think it could be cool.
Now just make sure you get these all wrapped up and under my tree in the next 19 days, and make sure they are sent to Washington State because that's where I'll be. Thanks again for reading true believers, EXCELSIOR!

|If you want old school, Craig, how's abut teaming up two already-established characters in an already-established team-up?|
GREEN LANTERN and GREEN ARROW!
That team-up broke ALL kinds of records during their run. One issue actually was REJECTED by the Comics Code for drug use (Speedy's drug addiction issue), and they published it anyway!
But.........(sigh), the PC police would quiver (like how I worked that in?), in their booties just thinking about tackling such a team-up.
As always, great column.
Make Mine Marvel!
P.S. Silver Surfer? We haven't even seen Galactus yet (I know - old argument). Maybe an SS origin, like you suggested?
