Future love.

Future love.
A few months back I listed ten excellent below the radar flicks that I thought were exceptional. Well, I'm back with ten more. Again, it's a tad presumptuous of me to suggest that you haven't seen any of these fine offerings, but I would be willing to wager that some of them are unfamiliar to the average movie goer. I'm here to expand your viewing horizon, so without further ado, here are ten great films I doubt you've seen.

10: A NOS AMOURS (1983) - Alienated from her family, a troubled young girl decides to find herself through a series of meaningless sexual encounters. Sandrine Bonnaire is ebullient in her portrayal of the rebellious Suzanne.

9: 2046 (2004) - Director Wong

Kar-Wai's loose sequel to IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE follows the struggles of Chow Mo-wan, a lovelorn writer who dreams of a place where he and his one true love can be together.

8: TRANSSIBERIAN (2008) - A unique mystery/thriller set aboard the Trans-Siberian Railway. A couple clinging to a broken marriage become embroiled in murder and police corruption. Ben Kingsley, Woody Harrelson and Emily Mortimer all deliver nuanced performances.

7: ANTARES (2004) - A stark, sexy exploration into the lives of three couples who reside in the same Austrian high-rise apartment. Seemingly disparate, their situations intersect in intriguing ways.

6: MORVERN CALLAR (2002) - After

stealing authorship of her deceased boyfriend's novel, a lonely cashier and her best friend head to the south of Spain to party. Samantha Morton is stunning, as are Director Lynne Ramsay's visuals.

5: EQUILIBRIUM (2002) - THE MATRIX meets 1984 in this bleak science fiction thriller about a society void of human emotion. Christian Bale plays a deadly law enforcer who suffers a crisis of conscious. The action sequences are top notch.

4: THUMBSUCKER (2005) - An odd little film about a teen pariah who deals with his problems by sucking his thumb. Hypnosis cures him of his affliction, but maybe not for the better. Not your ordinary coming of age story.

3: SNOW

ANGELS (2007) -
Writer/Director David Gordon Green's dark examination of how divorce can ruin an entire community. It won't brighten your day, but it is fascinating from start to finish.

2: THE KING OF KONG (2007) - One man's dogged pursuit of the world record in Donkey Kong turns into a frustrating journey beset by lies and massive egos. Has to be seen to be believed.

1: ONE EYED JACKS (1961) - A revisionist Western set in gorgeous Monterey, California and directed by Marlon Brando. It doesn't get much better than that. Brando plays a quick-draw outlaw named Rio, who seeks revenge on the former partner who betrayed him. Beautiful images and wonderful acting highlight this gem.
