There's the man. |
| ....greatest comic book character. With clout like that, how go you go wrong? Well when writing a movie about such a highly regarded, albeit obscure comic book character, there are so many ways. What ways are those you ask? Well I am glad I asked me that question because that leads me into today's column, how to make a good Deadpool movie.
First off don't drop the ball on his origins. Yes they got some of it correct in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE meaning he was normal soldier that was given mutant abilities from captured mutants which included Wolverine. But that is as far as it came to the comic. Wade Winston Wilson was the son of an army general and a terminally ill mother, dying of cancer. She died and his father became

| abusive and alcoholic. Wade dropped out of high school to join United States Army Special Forces, but was eventually kicked out and turned to mercenary work. After learning was dying of the same type of cancer that took his mother, he volunteered for the second Weapon X program (the first one being James Howlett/Logan/Wolverine - Alpha Flight Craig.) The geneticists used DNA left over from Wolverine to try to reproduce his mutant healing factor. The result was scarring and disfiguring to Wade's skin, but nothing else. Being deemed a failure he was sent to Doctor Killebrew's "Workshop" along with the other rejected test subjects. There he was tortured and experimented on with the other,

| who began dying off leading them to take up "dead pool" betting on who would live the longest. In an attempted excution, Wade's healing factor finally kicked and he managed to escape back to a life of mercenary work, taking the name Deadpool.
Yeah that was longer that I expected myself. Now this was pretty straight forward, but what I didn't get into were the experiments and torture that resulted in Deadpool basically going insane. Somewhere between having his DNA altered and getting lobotomized he became aware that he was a comic book character. He broke the forth wall several times, made references to past issues and best of all he made fun of the medium in which he was based. His jokes were funny too. Deadpool
Not quite what us fans were expecting. |
| is what Spiderman would be if he was a mercenary. He makes obscure pop culture references and that is something that set him apart from his peers.
Finally, give the guy his proper costume. It is not like he is running around in blue and red spandex with a flared red cape. As much as people may not all like SPIDERMAN, FANSTIC FOUR, BATMAN DARK KNIGHT, GHOST RIDER, DARE DEVIL or IRON MAN, they looked cool. Now I know I am jumping the gun on this because it is not final that there even will be a spin-off Deadpool, but the sooner I gripe about it the sooner it can get fixed (assuming anyone reads these columns I write let alone anyone of power - Annoyed Alpha.) Thanks for reading true believers, EXCELSIOR!

I am the first and the last, maybe not. I'm 31 years old and still spend my disposable income on comic books. Might as well put it to good use.
