| On Tuesday, as the cliché goes, everyone is Irish. Celebrate your Irishness not by drinking green Miller Lite, but rather by putting some films with notable Irish actors on your queue. Here are some of my picks for works with stellar Irish actors.
Pierce Brosnan
The film THE MATADOR (2005) has a special place in my heart because it was the first movie date the boyfriend and I had together, but if I were to suggest one work to celebrate Pierce Brosnan I would go with The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror XII (2001). Marge chooses Brosnan's voice on the Ultra House 3000 because he was Remington Steele.
Gabriel Byrne
MILLER'S CROSSING (1990)
Byrne is excellent in this stylistic, Prohibition-era mobster film by the Coen Brothers.
Daniel Day-Lewis
IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER (1993)
Other people might choose different films by Daniel Day-Lewis, but Lewis is amazing in this gripping film based on a true story of men falsely imprisoned for IRA violence in London.
Colin Farrell
The most endearing performance of Farrell's career has to be his appearance as an Irishman named Billy on a Scrubs episode from season 4, "My Lucky Charm." Billy charms everyone in the hospital and gives Turk and JD some terrific advice on living life to its fullest, including taking home the ugliest girl at the party.
Colm Meaney
Do not miss the March 22 episode of The Simpsons entitled "In the Name of the Grandfather," which will feature Colm Meaney (better known as Chief Miles O'Brien on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine). The Simpsons travel to Ireland in this episode, and if you're lucky enough to live on the other side of the Pond from me, you can see it a full five days before those of us on North America will, as it will appear on Sky1 on Tuesday, March 17.
Cillian Murphy
Murphy is the sweet boy who gets Griet to smile in THE GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING (2003).
Liam Neeson
Who doesn't adore Liam Neeson? My pick is LOVE ACTUALLY (2003), and while it does take place at Christmastime, I find it to be a delicious romcom all year round.
Peter O'Toole
To fully appreciate O'Toole's long, rich career, you must see RATATOUILLE (2007).
Jonathan Rhys Meyers
MATCH POINT (2005)
In the best effort in the past 20 years of Woody Allen's career, Meyers stars as Chris, a despicable former tennis star whose erroneous sense of entitlement entices him to have an affair with a vulnerable and attractive, but struggling, American actress.
He's going to get in TROUBLE! |

Maureen O'Sullivan
HANNAH AND HER SISTERS (1986)
In the best film of the middle 20-year chunk of Woody Allen's career, O'Sullivan plays Norma, the mother of Hannah (Mia Farrow) and her sisters. O'Sullivan is the real-life mother of Mia Farrow and Mia's six siblings.
Think you'll burn through theese picks too quickly? Well, you are in luck, as last Tuesday and this coming Tuesday have some pretty big-name DVD titles dropping. Some of my picks:

The fifth season was grand! Highlights include: Jen actually gets grounded—and why? Because she's hanging around with the cool, airheaded girls. 9 out of 10 librarians think Denise is a hoot. The 10th one couldn't corroborate because she was dead.
