I must be going through some kind of lovesick phase lately but it's a really good feeling when you think about it. It's kind of like re-living an old forgotten love affair only even better. Much better. Well, let's hope for the best here....I've been following the blogs online for the re-release of MY BLOODY VALENTINE on DVD for awhile now & it would seem that hardcore fans like myself are finally getting what we really wanted all along. Hey, what's the world coming to if you can't get what you want in the line of great entertainment? Thankfully, someone out there listened to our concerns regarding releasing the uncut version of MY BLOODY VALENTINE & including all the original gore scenes which we weren't able to view on the Paramount release. Not a bad way to start the new year, right?

Initially, Lions Gate had mentioned they would give us the gore scenes on the special edition DVD but only as special features. Well, that would have ok by me although I was pissed they wouldn't be integrated back into the original film. Thankfully, it has been confirmed by several reliable sources that all the lost footage is being re-edited back into the film we loved so much. Other

than the botched-up job Lions Gate did with Nick Palumbo's MURDER-SET-PIECES, I have always had the utmost respect for the studio & the mere fact they aren't afraid to take chances with the more extreme cinema. Hopefully, Paramount will take the cue & not make the same mistake again when they re-release the FRIDAY THE 13TH films on DVD. We want the uncut versions as everyone and their mother has seen the R-rated versions of this series for years now. Given the transformational nature of our society, the unedited versions have proven to be more welcomed on DVD than in the local multiplexes.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE has been a favorite film of mine since my family first bought the VHS player & it still holds up well even by today's standards so naturally you can tell how thrilled I am to finally be granted the option of viewing the unedited version. (No, I never had the Beta format.) MBV was a bizarre little Canadian film but I must've easily seen it a bazillion times & still would enjoy seeing it again to this day with friends on Valentine's day. When it comes down to truly terrifying horror slashers, very few in the late '70's or early '80's could even hope to rival

Now what of the supposed re-make? I digress. At some point in time, every good Horror Film will be remade irregardless of how much we dread watching our fav-o films be ripped to shreds but what can you do? Admittedly, the teaser poster is rather cool & the concept of 3-D films in local multiplexes is sensational enough to atleast peak my interest. I'm definitely not discounting remakes
Let's just hope whoever took this project did their homework.

but I've seen so few which have anything remotely new to add to the stories I grew up with. I have even less faith in Hollywood now as the great majority of filmmakers aren't willing to produce anything that won't merit a PG-13 rating anymore. Thus, we are bombarded with an imposing flux of unnecessary films like PROM NIGHT redux or the even more laughable WHEN A STRANGER CALLS. It's a shame they can't take their cues from Aja who remade Craven's HILLS HAVE EYESor Zombie's HALLOWEEN. Oh well, all we can do is wish & hope for the best as usual. So here's hoping for atleast a halfway decent revision of a classic splatfest that has always had a place in my heart. (No pun intended.)

As always, keep your hopes sky high when you think of what tomorrow may hold in terms of yesterday's cinema & just pray that there may be a few rare gems yet to be seen on the big screen for us all. If it makes you feel any better, just raise your third finger as Hollywood obviously hasn't the faintest idea of how to satisfy a thirsty horror fan. Can someone out there show them how to keep it evil?

If Pan met Apollo down with the sin, I would be amongst the angels who descended to Earth with great mission to seek newfound meaning & to explore great sinema. Brian was born in 1974 ofcourse on the NC/VA border & has been watching movies for as far back as he can remember. One should never forget a great movie nor pass up the chance to spread the word on a bad one.
