Karma and Du a few years ago. Something similar may soon be yours! |
| For those of you getting a head start on holiday shopping, this week's column highlights an eclectic mix of DVD release for the coming weeks. If you are already shopping (and can afford to shop), hats off to you! I feel that my readers deserve a little gift as well, so in the spirit of finals (well, at least at my school, which is on the trimester system), this fortnight's column is a quiz with prizes.
The first person to email the correct answers to all ten questions below to marzipanjoy@yahoo.com will receive:
- The T-shirt of your choice from the cool-ass Teecycle website
- A handmade holiday card sent from me directly to you or the recipient of your choice (available in secular, Hanukkah, or Christmas)
- Bonus surprise item if you have a profile on Matchflick
- An autographed copy of the book I am co-writing with Dr. Karma*
The coolest part—all of the answers can be found right here on matchflick.com!
Let's get started: (note: I will not be referring to myself as "I" in favor of "Du" in the interest of not

1. Du met actor Mark Metcalf through a mutual friend, writer Justin Shady. What is Justin's nom de plume?
2. Dr. Karma and Du both ran recent columns about their favorite film presidents. Name one President they have in common.
3. Du and Dr. Karma have been friends for nearly 10 years. Where did they meet?
4. A line from which Kevin Smith character made its way into Du's favorite quotes?
5. Who is Bobby B's number one badass babe?
6. While Du is indeed a straight girl, she has dedicated many columns to some of her various girl crushes. Name two.
7. What would Lance Norris like Clint Eastwood to "toss our way"?
8. Which of the following was NOT a mockumentary recommended by Du?
a. LOLLILOVE
b. WAITING FOR GUFFMAN
c. DROP DEAD GORGEOUS
d. FARCE OF THE PENGUINS
9. On two occasions, Du invited a guest columnist to write the Take Your Queue from Du column. Who was it?
10. Which Matchflick columnist recently wrote a column about Hollywood's haunted locales, including the

You are done! Email me your responses pronto, and I'll be in touch to arrange delivery of your prizes.
I have just finished watching the complete series of Spaced from Netflix, and I hearily endorse it. The boyfriend was excited to get Orson Welles's TOUCH OF EVIL on DVD recently. Also, if you have not yet purchased season 11 of The Simpsons, get right on it! It includes many wonderful episodes including "Behind the Laughter," "Beyond Blunderdome," "Faith Off," "Kill the Alligator and Run." Season 11 sees the accidental death of Maude ("Alone Again, Natura-Diddily") plus, the packaging is wonderful, as usual, and Krusty is on the cover.
The coming weeks offer some interesting DVDs, some may be a little obscure, but you should be able to add a thing or two to your wish list or knock off a recipient or two off your shopping list:
DROPPING NOVEMBER 11
- HELLBOY II THE GOLDEN ARMY
Just saw a commercial for this-- get your "limited edition 3-disc set on Tuesday."
- Scrubs Complete Seventh Season (all the wonderful regular cast

I just saw her on Entourage. What else is she doing? |
| members, plus Elizabeth Banks of W and ZACH AND MIRI fame)
- The Sopranos- The Complete Series (this is hella expensive, but you could try Amazon or other online stores for sales)
DROPPING NOVEMBER 18
- MONTY PYTHON HOLY TRINITY
(HOLY GRAIL, LIFE OF BRIAN, MEANING OF LIFE)
Need I say more?
- MISTER LONELY
(a film with Diego Luna written by the writer/director of KIDS and GUMMO).
- The Texan
(acclaimed TV series with Rory Calhoun, 1958-1960)
- WU: The Story of the Wu-Tang Clan
- The Odd Couple The Complete Series
- WALL-E
- TROPIC THUNDER
- SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS 2
(*sigh* those last three never got crossed off the theater Must See list, and will be transferred instead to the Netflix queue).
*For now, the winner will receive an autographed photo of Du and Dr. Karma with an IOU for the book, which should be published in 2009.
