The new Dynamic Duo! |
| Okay, it looks like I am going for the hat trick, the tri-fecta, the third strikes and ......... I'm out? Okay that went in a strange direction, but my point is that I am bringing to you another possible comic book buddy movie. The two other times I did a column like this it was the DC characters Batman & Superman (which was a given) and Green Arrow & Green Lantern. Now I am jumping ship much like Stan Lee did in his limited "Just Imagine" series where he re-imagined DC heroes the way he would have created them if he had the chance (and it still boggles my mind that there wasn't a bigger fuss made about Stan "Creator of Marvel heroes Spiderman, Captain America, The Hulk, Iron Man and The Fantastic Four" Lee writing for the arch enemy DC – confused Craig.) I am again getting away from my point. Today I am taking a great former Marvel comic book series and throwing in my opinion on how it could be a good movie adaptation (no acting cast suggestions this time around though - considerate Craig.) The duo in of discussion is none other than Cable and Deadpool. Submitted for your approval, whether you approve or not, here is a rundown of who I think should be in this movie.
Deadpool
This one is a given. His name is in the title for crying out loud. I have said it several times, "this is what Spiderman would have been like if he chose to be a mercenary instead of a hero. " Deadpool will be excellently portrayed by Ryan Reynolds (don't make me look stupid now Reynolds by doing a poor job – careful Craig) and there is talk of him having a spin-off movie as well. I think my fellow Matchflicker, James, can back me up on this one, Deadpool is more than worthy of a movie.
Powers: Regenerative healing factor, Superhuman strength, stamina, agility, and reflexes Expert marksman, swordsman, and martial artist, Teleportation, "Comic awareness",
Yeah you've seen this pic before, so what? |
| Telepathic immunity and "Cursed with life" (inability to die) by Thanos.
Cable
I figure this is going to turn into a "pro-Deadpool movie" column if I don't move on (besides Cable's name is also in the title – consistent Craig.) Cable is the loner, the rebel; a guy like him you wouldn't want messed up with Dottie. He's tall, dark, quiet, brooding and tough as techno-organic nails. He is the son of Scott Summers/Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor (a clone of Jean Grey/Phoenix ); brought up in a dark desolate future while suffering from the techno-organic (TO) virus that converts organic matter into TO matter. It is considered to be a painful infection resulting in a zombie-like personality making the infected susceptible to technological persuasion (i.e. programming – cybernetic Craig.) He not only controlled it with his mutant abilities, he cured himself of it.
Powers: Telepathy, Telekinesis, Superhuman physical attributes, Expert marksman, skilled hand-to-hand fighter and Teleportation.
Agent X
A guy named Nijo Minamiyori awoke one day with strange abilities. He couldn't remember his name or where he came from. He adopted the name Alex Hayden after his favorite composers Alexander Grieg and Josef Haydn. After a while he discovered that he received his abilities due to an explosion during a fight between a villain named Black Swan and Deadpool. Black Swan used his powers, in an act of desperation to save himself, and psionically acquired Deadpool's healing factor but accidentally made contact with Nijo and the personal traits of all three were all mixed around. After getting all of the personalities straightened out Agent X became the head of mercenary organization, Agency X.
Powers: Regenerative healing factor, superhuman endurance, stamina, and agility, Expert marksman and
Get in my belly, not on it. |
| Subconscious telepathic blocking.
Bob, Agent of HYDRA
Bob was an average guy with a normal life. At the behest of his wife he joined the criminal organization HYDRA in order to have a "stable job" with benefits. During a mission to rescue Agent X, Deadpool coerced Bob into helping them escape the HYDRA stronghold where Agent X was being held. Knowing full well that HYDRA would consider him to be a traitor, Bob decided to join Agency X and maintains a blog about their activities read primarily by Weasel.
Powers: No superpowers, no combat or tactical skills, Expert "running away and hiding when confronted with danger" skills and master of the "Hiding behind each other" and "If I can't see them they can't see me" techniques.
Domino
This woman has been many things to Cable. She has been an on and off confidante, lover and teammate. She knows him better than most and knows more about him than most would prefer to. She is part of, and the result of, a top-secret government breeding program designed to create the perfect human weapon. When an imposter tried to join the New Mutants, using her identity, their then leader Cable found out and vowed to rescue the real Domino. The relationship between the two has evolved and devolved many times over since.
Powers: Probability manipulation, superb marksman with various firearms and skilled hand-to-hand combatant.
Weasel
This is where Deadpool "gets those wonderful toys" to quote the Joker. Weasel is a technological genius and one of Deadpool's best friends. He basically supplies Deadpool and helps in his mercenary endeavors, which landed him on the wrong side of the law on several occasion. Hey, with a birth name like Jack Hammer how can you not be expected to turn to a life of crime?
Powers: Genius-level intellect
Sandi
The supporting cast. |
| Brandenberg
She is the glue that holds AgencyX together. She was secretary for Deadpool and now works for Agency X in the same capacity. This complicates things as she is a former love interest to both Deadpool and Agent X (and is currently the girlfriend of the Taskmaster – cautious Craig.) Needless to say this girl isn't so much the secretary as she is the mother superior to Agency X.
Powers: None beyond secretarial skills, exotic dancing and the ability to unintentionally seduce two superheroes who do not normally succumb to telepathic persuasion.
Taskmaster
He has they ability to mimic the physical movements of anyone he witnesses (provided the movements are physically possible for an ordinary human – compliant Craig) after seeing it even just once. He realized that there was a lot of money to be made, partly as a result of impersonating heroes, and decided to become a mercenary/criminal. He eventually became a part of Agency X at the request of his girlfriend Sandi Brandenberg. He also played a huge part in helping Agent X to recover his memories and aided in his training. Taskmaster has gone on to become drill instructor at Camp Hammond, responsible for training registered superheroes for the Fifty States Initiative.
Powers: Photographic reflexes
Now there is enough going on here to have a movie before I even get started with enemies for the duo. I think it is safe to safe that I have provided enough of a line-up to make for a great movie (I, for one, wouldn't want to include any of the super-villains at this point because they might get lost in the thematic fray – conscientious Craig.) Just put the two up against HYDRA, include a tasteful cameo of Agency X and call it good, nuff said. Thanks for reading true believers, EXCELSIOR!
