Since her big-screen debut in 2002 as Jodie Foster's daughter in Panic Room, Kristen Stewart has undertaken a wide variety of projects, most of which did not make a tremendous impact at the box office. You might think a young, talented actress would be discouraged by this fact, but Kristen Stewart has shown that it takes much more than low ticket sales to slow her down.

She's got a purpose in life and is working hard to realize it. Earlier this year she starred in the Pang brothers' thriller The Messengers. Although the film

itself was less than extraordinary, Stewart was brilliant as the troubled older sister. Her acting style is subdued but honest, very natural. Very believable. And it's that sincerity that keeps shining through in each of her projects.

Of course it doesn't hurt that she's pretty, either. She could have easily accepted more sensual roles to exploit her good looks. She could have accepted more roles in kids' movies too, marketing her childlike appearance, especially in years past. But Stewart has deliberately maintained a safe

distance from stereotypical roles, choosing instead to take a more original path through the maze of Hollywood by pushing herself to succeed, not as the next Anything, but as herself.

And people are noticing. This year, she'll be starring in four other feature films: The Cake Eaters, Into the Wild, Fierce People, and The Land of Women (which opens nationwide today). As if that weren't enough, she's already got plans for 2008 too, with a starring role in “What Just Happened?” opposite Robert De Niro, Bruce Willis and Sean Penn.
