At fourteen years old and with several feature films already under his belt, Josh Hutcherson's not exactly a helpless fledgling. The scruffy-haired star of Bridge to Terabithia has captured the hearts of young moviegoers around the world with his endearing boy-next-door charm, but during his short career he's also managed to showcase a genuine passion for acting that's catching the eye of older generations as well.
Catch him while you can--this little boy is growing up fast.
With a serious dedication to his craft, Hutcherson is more than just a cute kid with a knack for memorizing lines. On the screen, he moves with the grace and professionalism you'd expect from a seasoned actor, projecting a confidence that's light-years ahead of his age. He's also developed a keen awareness for the nuances of facial expression and is able to pull them off convincingly with that pliable little mouth of his that can change in an instant from the goofy grin of a boy stricken with puppy love to the restrained scowl of an emotionally deprived and misunderstood teenager.
Off the screen, Hutcherson claims to be “just a regular kid,” but his down-to-earth humility doesn't quite fit the mold of the stereotypical American teenager. He's extremely close to his family, sincerely appreciative of his fans, and has a relentless determination for following his dreams. In short, this boy's got heart. The driving force behind his success is not a desire for fame and fortune but the simple enjoyment of doing what he loves best. And that's the attitude that's going to send him soaring far beyond the realm of magic and make-believe.
He's already working on his transition into young adulthood with a film whose cast includes Forest Whitaker and Kate Beckinsale. But if you want to catch a glimpse of this future star before he loses his childhood innocence, just grab a kid and head to the theater. Along with Bridge to Terabithia, he'll be starring in Firehouse Dog (opening April 4th), and Journey 3D, a science fiction project based on the Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth.
