Best All ‘Round Date: You're going to The Island...

This movie has gotten mixed reviews, but I have to say—I thought it was great. It's the perfect date movie, no matter what kind of date you are on. It's got a little something for everybody: action, romance, humor. The topic is timely—although, I think they could have gone a little deeper. Another nifty little surprise is that this movie has one of the most intense car chases I have seen since Matrix Reloaded. It'll leave you and your date wondering, "how'd they do that?" It is a little fantastic, but I guess that's part of the charm. The Island is at times somewhat over the top, and other times just predictable. But in all, the Island is fun romp that suits almost any mood.

Best Stay-at-Home Date: The Girl with the Pearl Earring

Looking for the perfect DVD appetizer for a "hot" evening? Pearl Earring, with very little dialogue, and almost even less of a story, manages to capture the intensity of an unanswered passion. The girl Griet (Scarlett Johannson) gains employment as a maid in the house of master painter Van der Meer. Well, the master-lady-maid love triangle is nothing new, but this one takes a new twist. The affair is entirely emotional, and unspoken. Griet and Van der Meer must satisfy their lustful longings with other, more available partners—Van der Meer with his wife, and Griet with the butcher's son Peter; a sort of "love the one you're with" philosophy. It's simply the story of a forbidden love, which most daters can relate to. That being said, it leaves the viewer so hot to see Griet and Van der Meer "get it on" that when they don't, and the movie ends—you have no choice but to exercise those demons of passion on your date!
