Best Grab-Your-Honey Date: War of the Worlds

If you're looking for a convenient excuse to hang on to your date, then you can't lose with War of the Worlds. A sci-fi jaunt with a seriously realistic feel, this film almost makes you believe the planet is actually being taken over by an alien nation bent on our extermination. The callousness and indifference with which the aliens go about their dirty work borders on disturbing--yet, through it all Spielberg manages to draw you in to the human drama unfolding between Ron Ferrier (Cruise) and his children. Be prepared to grab your date and emerge white-knuckled!

Best "Friend" Date: Bewitched

If you've been hanging out with a "friend"—and aren't quite sure what your status is, Bewitched is your best movie bet. Heavy on the sweet and light on the sour, this flick is pleasant enough to keep from offending most people. Will Ferrell is funny as ever, though at times seems to be reprising his role in Elf, and Kidman is a delight, if not a little air headed. The connection between Kidman and Ferrell is probably the biggest treat of all—they make a natural couple and are completely believable as the reincarnated Darrin and Samantha. A sweet romantic comedy, Bewitched doesn't commit too much to intensifying the romantic relationship of the leads—which makes it a safe bet for those couples who want to avoid thinking about anything more than light entertainment.

Best Kids-in-Tow Date: Herbie Fully Loaded

This Herbie, updated and thoroughly modern, still retains enough of the original magic to make it a favorite in my book. If you are a parent that finds yourself on a date with kids, this is a perfect pick. No worries on language or even a suggestion of adult themes, this one is pure "G"—just like the old days. The story is cute, and even interesting enough to keep you and your date entertained as well. And really, who doesn't love rooting for Herbie? Herbie Fully Loaded is sure to take you back to the movies of your childhood—and lets you share the magic with your kids.
